How we started
I’m Dr. Sonya Leggett, BSc(Hons),PhD, BVetMed, VetMFHom, MRCVS – a holistic veterinary surgeon.
In 20 years of working with domestic pets, horses and farm animals, I’ve used homeopathy, acupuncture, nutritional advice and, where appropriate, allopathic medicine. I’m a member of The British Association of Homeopathic Veterinary Surgeons (BAHVS) and The Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists (ABVA).
Long experience has shown me that a significant factor in many animal diseases and behavioural problems is an inappropriate diet.
My solution? To open Ziggy’s, a shop specialising in high quality supplements and pet food, including raw meats, as well as all the very best accessories for the whole range of small animals.
Informal advice is always available. For more information about our veterinary services, click here.
Since qualifying as a vet in 1998, I’ve devoted much of my time to a more holistic approach to the treatment of animals which is immensely rewarding. I love to build up trusting long-term relationships with my patients and their owners.
In taking time to discover everything about an animal’s general condition, nutrition, lifestyle and behaviour, I can offer a truly considered response to any health issues – gentle, natural interventions without the potentially damaging side-effects that conventional medicines may sometimes bring.
Before I took up veterinary science, I achieved my doctorate studying viral hepatitis and carried out extensive research into adverse vaccine reactions – a subject which still fascinates me in relation to animal health.
School (you don’t want to know…) followed by an engineering apprenticeship with Scammell lorries, then on to work for a crane manufacturer. After that, I ran my own crane repair company for over 25 years.
Now, having started up Ziggy’s with Sonya, I’ve swapped the cranes with legs, pointy beaks and feathers! It’s much more fun and I love meeting happy fellow pet owners. I’ve had dogs throughout my life so I’m pleased to be in a position to help them and other animals.
I started working at Ziggy’s in November 2017 . I have already learnt so much from Dr Sonya and the other staff in the shop.
I studied for two years at Plumpton Collage, which means I now have a diploma in agriculture. I have also always had horses and dogs, so working here I am in my element.
Details coming shortly!
I've been working at Ziggy's since the end of March 2017. I've loved working Wednesdays & Saturdays here, on the other days of the week I'm a dog walker in Haywards Heath. I really enjoy learning new things, especially about the wellbeing of animals. Since joining the team I've gained a lot more knowledge and confidence about our pets diets and a lot about the holistic side too and how it has helped so many animals. In 2017 I passed my level 2 canine behaviour course at Plumpton College, which was so interesting, I hope to do more courses in the near future.
